The Edmonton facility is a hazardous waste transfer station permitted
by Alberta Environmental Protection for all classes of hazardous
wastes. The following has been issued by Alberta Environmental Protection:
|
Permit No.:
|
001-184498
|

The facility consolidates bulk or drum liquid and solid wastes
and transfers the waste to approved treatment facilities or disposal
sites. A certificate of destruction is issued to each generator
for all waste streams sent to the Edmonton facility.

Drummed waste is offloaded in the warehouse and stored
on storage racks, which are attached to a sprinkler system for fire
control. All drum wastes are properly stored and labeled with the
TDG Class,
Waste Name and Handling Instructions. Liquid wastes may be consolidated
in one of three 22,500-litre storage tanks also located in the warehouse.
Only compatible liquid wastes of the same hazard class are mixed in
the same tank. The tanks are equipped with high level alarms to prevent
overflow and bermed to contain over 100% of the tanks capacity in
case of a spill. A comprehensive contingency and fire protection plan
has been developed for the facility, which outlines emergency response
procedures such as spills and fires, as well as detailing safe work
and fire prevention practices. |
